AMS College of Fine Arts and Media Education

AMS College of Fine Arts and Media Education

Brief History

College of Fine Arts and Media Education was established in July 2005 with the twin objectives of promotion of Fine Arts and creation of employability. It also aims at promoting Telugu language and preservation of our cultural heritage. With the establishment of this college Andhra Mahila Sabha extended its services to the field of Fine arts too. In fact, Andhra Mahila Sabha at Chennai was started initially with Music classes and Hindi classes for women and children. Dr.Durgaabai Deshmukh, the founder of Andhra Mahila Sabha, was an ardent lover of fine arts and was proficient in playing Veena. She introduced Arts and Crafts in many institutions founded by her. With her blessings the unit is working exclusively for the promotion of Fine Arts.

College of Fine Arts & Media Education is a self-financing unit and is academically affiliated to Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University. Initially it was started to offer courses in Music affiliated to Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University. But, gradually courses offered by IGNOU, M.A.Music offered by Sri Padmavathi Mahila University through distance mode and some other courses designed by the college itself were introduced.

The college aims at making learning of Fine Arts accessible to as many as possible. For almost all the courses offered by the college there is no age limit. Most of the courses are part-time and are convenient for house wives, working women and students. Boys and men are also allowed for the part-time courses. The fee structure is cost based and is low when compared to the other institutions offering similar courses.

Apart from the regular academic activities, the college is keen on conducting co-curricular activities like seminars, workshops, symposia etc, for providing exposure to the students in the related fields. A Bi-Lingual Quarterly Journal on Music with the title “Kinnera” is also being published by the college since October 2008.

Foundation Stone for the College Building

On 26th January 2007, the foundation stone for the college building was laid by Sri Medasani Radha Krishna Murthi. He donated Rs.15 Lakhs for the construction of the building in memory of his daughters (late) Sarada and Sudha. Smt.Lalitha Murthy donated Rs.4 Lakhs and Dr.V.L.Thulasamma donated Rs.1 lakh for the construction of the building. Andhra Mahila Sabha also financed the project by an internal transfer of funds to the tune of Rs.2 Lakhs. The construction of the building was completed by August 2007.

“Telugu Bala Siksha” T.V.Lessons

For teaching Telugu Language through English – the College has prepared “Telugu Balasiksha” a serial of 25 episodes of half-an-hour duration each for Mana Telugu T.V; a U.K. based T.V.Channel. Sponsorships and Donations:

Received an amount of Rs.125000/- from Obul Reddy Educational Academy towards the sponsorship of salaries for two teachers. We have been receiving this assistance since 2007 and are grateful to the academy. Sanathana Dharma CharitableTrust has granted amount of Rs.96000/- towards the salary of onemusic teacher for 12months.

Donations:

Prof.Y.SaraswathyRao has donated an amount of Rs.100000/- with instructions to keep the amount in FixedDeposit and use the interest thereon to conduct “TyagarajaAaradhana” every year. Smt. Sudha of B.A.Music has donated an amount of Rs.200000/- in memory of her late father Sri.K.Satyanarayana and requested to use the interest on the deposit for conducting “TyagarajaAaradhana” and Teachers’ Day. Sir DasuDamadaraRao has donated an amount of Rs.100000/- as a general donation for the development of the college.

Income generating programme:

“Fairy Princess Institute” was given permission to conduct their “Advanced Beautician course” in our premises in return to which they pay Rs.1000/- per candidate to the college. Their course is of 3 months duration and in every batch the number of students admitted will be 40 on an average.

In spite of the donations – sponsorships and income generating programmes, the financial position of the Institution is not satisfactory. This is because of the low fee structure and fluctuating strength of the students. The college will be financially stable and secured if any funding agency comes forward, extending a helping hand. I conclude the report with a hope to get such an assistance in the near future which enables us serve better.
