Literacy House
Literacy House is a Unit of Andhra Mahila Sabha founded by Dr (Smt). Durgabai Deshmukh in 1972 for the promotion of functional literacy and lifelong learning in Andhra Pradesh as inspired by the Lucknow Literacy House established by Mrs Welthy Fisher in Uttar Pradesh. The main objective of Literacy House has been visualized to act as a nodel agency for providing resource support to literacy in Andhra Pradesh and undertake activities that promote, motivate and mobalize for literacy and continuing education programmes in the State. A huge building was constructed for the functioning of Literacy House, with the financial assistance provided by the world Literacy of Canada and was inaurated by Smt Indira Gandhi the then Prime Minister of India on 3rd February 1972.
About Us
Literacy House has a long History of achievements starting from Farmers Functional Literacy Project in Shad Nagar during 1970’s. Several Literacy Projects (RFLP, FFLP0) have been organized in several districts including Ranga Reddy, Nizamabad, Warangal, Karnool, Karim Nagar etc. by Literacy House. The prestigious State Resource Centre for Adult Education of the Ministry of HRD, Govt.of India has been Managed by Literacy House for more than a decade which has played a crucial role during the period of Total Literacy Campaigns in AP during 1990’s. Since Past four decades, Literacy House has been involved in organizing several programmes promoting Awareness, Livelihood skills, Life skills, material development by collaborating and networking with several governmental and nongovernment organizations. Besides, Literary House has also organized a Puppetry cell for motivation and mobalization purpose utilizing the popular folk art of puppetry.
Programmes and Activities :
Training programme for MEPMA:
Literacy House has conducted placement linked skill training programme for MEPMA, Ranga Reddy District in 5 courses i.e M.S.Office, Web Designing, 2 D Animation, Pre Primary Teacher Training and Fashion Designing. Other regular programmes are for children in the areas of Spoken English, Hand writing, Vedic Maths, Drawing & Painting & Computers. In the year 2010, Literacy House has undertaken few schools in Spoken English & DTP allotted by Rajiv Vidya Mission.
Vocational Training Provider:
Literacy House has registered as Vocational Training Provider under Skill Development Initiative scheme of Directorate of Employment & Training, Government of India. DET has approved 21 Courses in Garment making, Computers and Hospitality sectors.
Training Programme for RVM:
Literacy House, Andhra Mahila Sabha has organized 2 day Orientation Training Programme for ANM’s & CRT’s of KGBV’s of Andhra Pradesh by the secretary, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Society, Hyderabad during 2013.
Future Plans:To develop Literacy House as a full fledged service provider to non and neo literates and others especially women in the areas of Awareness Income Generation.

Literacy House, Andhra Mahila Sabha has its own building in the AMS Academic Campus, O.U.Road, Hyderabad.

A Computer Lab along with class room, A Tailoring Unit equipped with sewing machines and arrangements for class rooms.It has the necessary infrastructure and Classrooms for the programmes
