About Us
The I.P.D. Orthopaedic Centre was inaugurated by Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1960. The Institution was established in memory of Iswari Prasad Dattatreya, a cerebral palsy child, by his parents Mr. & Mrs. Hanumantha Rao with a initial corpus of Rs. 1 Lakh. With the eradication of Polio the centre has shifted its focus to working with the mentally challenged. The institution has now grown into a rehabilitation centre with residential facilities for physically and mentally challenged children and adults with over a 100 residents
Programmes and Activities
Special education is provided to mentally challenged children and adults.

Vocational Training for Women
The Vocational Rehabilitation Unit at the Centre offers a two year training to physically challenged women above 18 years in Printing and Tailoring with free residential facilities.
Sheltered Workshop for Mentally Challenged adults :
The Durgabai Deshmukh School cum Sheltered Workshop offers Vocational training in making Paper-cups, Candles, Envelopes, Phenyl. On successful completion of training the students are paid stipend. An organic leaf manure project has also been started.
Therapy :
Therapies are offered to the mentally challenged children and adults as part of their schooling as well as at highly subsidized rates to out-patients. The Departments are managed by training personnel and equipped with all facilities.

On 15th October 2013 our students went to Thiruvavaduthurai Rajarathinam Auditorium, near our school and performed dance programme organized by Bonne chance.

On 6th November 2013 S & S I.T. Company conducted Sports to our children at our campus.

The inmates attended Light Music conducted by Rotary Club at ortho centre.

The inmates went to bajan at Kottivakkam by Mrs. Jaya Margabandhu and had dinner.

On 15th October 2013, the inmates attended cultural programme organized by Bonne chandce Educational Academy at Muthamil Mandram and they donated
Tailoring Machine and 3 motors to Tailoring Section.

The girls went Diwali function organized by Lions Club at Chenapuri Annadanam Samajam.

On 9th November 2013, Sales at Hostel Residency Towers, T.Nagar –Candles, Greeting Cards & Kerchief.

On 23rd November 2013, the inmates went to Sundaram Sai Baba Temple, on the occasion of Sathya Sai Baba’s Birthday.

On 27th November 2013, Lions Club, Nungambakkam donated a Wheel Chair at their office.

On 3rd December 2013, the inamates went to World Disabled Day at Basket Ball Stadium, Kilpauk for sports.

On 5th December 2013, the inmates went Anna University for World Disabled Day and enjoyed cultural programme.

On 12th December 2013, 6 inmates went to Tirupathi and Darshan of Lord Venkateshwara organized by RYA Food Bank, T.Nagar, Chennai.

On 14th December 2013, the inmates went to Maharashtra Bhavan, Vepery to attend World Disabled Day celebration organized by Sukriti Social Foundation. The distributed Sweets and Bags to our inmates.

On 17th December 2013, Women’s Voluntary Services of Tamilnadu on their 42nd Annual Day, they donate Caliper and Crutches to our old Student.
D.D. School cum Training centre for mentally retarded unit

A Meeting regarding the World Disabled Day was held at BKN, Vepery, and the Headmistress attend the Meeting. In the meeting it was decided to contribute Rs. 5000/- for each school.

On 22nd November 2013, District Level World Disabled Day Meet was conducted at St. Louis Institute. 5 of our students participated and 3 of them won prizes.

On 30th November 2013, 20 of our students attended Christmas Celebration at Good Shephered convent, in which they enjoyed games, santo’s and also received gifts.

On 3rd December 2013, the World Disabled Day State Level Sports Meet was held at J.J. Stadium, Kilpauk. 40 boys attended the function and 3 students participated in the events. Uma Devi won 1st prize and P. Velmurugan won 2nd prize in obstacle race. Madhu won 3rd prize in soft ball throw.

On 5th December 2013,World Disabled Day cultural programme as held at Anna University and about 40 students attended and enjoyed.

On 7th December 2013, Dream makers conducted Run games about 15 boys participated and got medals. It was held at Sathyabama University

On 12th December 2013, 8 students along, won 2 students went to Thirupathy to workship Balaji which was organized by volunteers of RYA.

The School was closed for Half-yearly holidays from 21st December 2013 to 1st January 2014.
